Stress relieving techniques that will help restore your inner peace.
We all experience anxiety and stress from time to time, some more often than others. And while we can’t control every single thing that happens to us, we can certainly choose how to respond. Practicing these simple techniques will help you manage stress successfully.
Name Your Emotions
Suppressing emotions is very unhealthy because it can lead to serious issues such as depression. To avoid that, therapists advise accepting negative feelings and naming them. The moment you feel something negative, name it. Just say: I am sad, I am angry, I am envious… By naming your feelings you make them less intense and easier to overcome.
Engage In Stress-Stopping Activities
One of the most effective tricks for dealing with anxiety and stress is to engage in some activity. This helps you clear your head and calm down. So, next time you feel stressed or anxious try one of these activities:
- Play your favorite music and dance or sing (or both)
- Exercise (yoga is very effective)
- Do a hobby
- Play with children or pets
- Light a scented candle and take a long bath
- Meditate or pray
- Watch a funny video
- Eat some dark chocolate
- Create art (color, paint, draw, play a musical instrument…)
Stress Relieving – Helping Other People
A 14-day study conducted at Yale University School of Medicine shows that people who often help others have lower stress levels and are more resilient than those who don’t. If you are too busy for volunteering, you can do small simple things like running an errand for an elderly neighbor or something like that.
