First dates usually encompass awkwardly beautiful moments which let you know if you are dining with the father of your unborn child or nothing more than just another Facebook acquaintance. Regardless of this, you should still strive to make a good first impression, preferably with a sexy killer winged eyeliner!
Spoiler alert- less is definitely more when it comes to first date makeup looks!
The first time you see your potential significant other in a romantic setting is not the time for you to take on fishtail brows.
Do: Stick To The Basics
Focus on tried and tested basics that you can execute well. This will not only save you time before your big first date but help ease the pressure off!
Don’t: Overdraw Lips
Don’t let the pressure of the day let you think that piling on tons of make-up is the only way to go. Leave the trendy make-up for your girl’s night out.
Do: Line Your Lips
Naturally line your lips, to enhance your pout. If you really must add a trendy touch or two, try a subtle ombre lip.
Don’t: Dark Eye shadow
Wearing dark eye shadow is “technically” advertised as sexy but the inky color will also make your eyes appear smaller and might make you look a tad bit intimidating.
Do: Smokey Eyes
Use a single eye shadow and smudge it across your waterline and lash line to introduce a sexy touch to your make-up look. Balance your appearance with clean cheeks and easy lips.
Don’t: Use Excessive Highlighter or Bronzer
First date make-up is all based on softness, both of which will not be found in your Instagram favorite highlighter and bronzer routine.
Do: Lightly Contour
Gently use an ashy-tone contour one or two shades darker than your skin to accentuate your cheeks. Finish your face with a touch of highlight. Apply it to the highpoints of your face and don’t forget to blend it all in.
Don’t: Dramatic Eyebrows
This is another trend that should never be considered for your date night. If you naturally have thick eyebrows, embrace them but fake penciled in ones will illicit more confused looks rather then impressed ones.
Do: Fill Them In
Your eyebrows will naturally frame your face, especially your eyes and should be refined with a little bit of product. We prefer using a brow pencil and working to create a natural brow.
Don’t: Cake On Foundation
Stop thinking that overusing foundation translates to perfect skin. Spending hours on layering foundation over foundation isn’t a good look at any social gathering, let alone your first date.
Do: Let Your Skin Breath
If you are blessed with freckles, allow them to peak through. Pick a buildable bb-cream and a high-quality concealer to create a base that allows your unique skin to shine through while still looking impeccable.
Don’t: Extreme Fake Eyelashes
Long spidery eyelashes will give off a stark and sometimes even harsh impact, something that might be a bit off-putting for a first date make-up look.
Do: Pile On The Mascara
Opt for lots of dark mascara. If you really have your heart set on fake eyelashes, grab individual ones to add volume, at the tips or go a soft bendable band for a more fluid effect.
Finish your makeup with thoughtful details like manicured nails, an unfussy hairstyle, and comfortable shoes! Plus, remember that all the make-up do’s and don’ts should end and start with discussing your plans, beforehand. Spend time customizing your makeup look for each activity rather than disregarding them.
