Before we set our hearts on the latest trends of 2020, let’s reminisce about the biggest style moments that shaped 2019 and take a guess if they will make the transition to the New Year.
2019 Instant Sensation Trend – Cycling Shorts
We had to start with this overnight sensation which went from a mocked essential for every cyclist to being on every blogger, YouTuber and celebrity – looking at you Kardashians!
While we didn’t spot many- if any, “regular” folks rocking cycling shorts every day, the trend did blow up and caused discussions, debates, and dialogues about where fashion trends were going for 2019 and beyond.
Ready for 2020? No, in our opinion, Cycling Shorts were more of an Insta-only presence much like the rainbow highlighter and while the images of high-end brands paired with this humble athletic wear were something to think about, we don’t believe we need to see any more of it!
Oh, So Neutral And Beige
The 90s were basically 2019’s most influential trend, affecting everything from clothing to accessories and even the color palette. The Beige battle was on 2018-2019 and took over 2017’s love of Grey and Black!
Unlike Cycling Shorts, which mostly became a trend due to social media, Beige was a luxury staple, being featured on elite designer runways like Chanel, Burberry, and Cloe.
British Vogue’s deputy editor, Sarah Harris, sporting her take on this 2019 trend by wearing a biscuit-hued Christopher Kane sweater during the Paris leg of fashion week.
2020 Welcomes COLOR
Ready for 2020? No! We love a good neutral but 2020 is ready to reign in some pops of color. Neon is all the rave! Bright colors with countless variations, tones and even textures that will bring on all the excitement!
The 2019 Saddle Bag Trend Stays Strong
This forgotten silhouette made a huge comeback in 2019 through the hands of Dior’s first female artistic director, Maria Grazia Chiuri.
This once upon a time classic bag got updated to meet 2019’s high standards and quickly became a wardrobe hero for a new generation of women, all looking to bring the magic of practicality together with the sophistication of thoughtful design.
Ready for 2020? Definitely. The New Year might work on adding more details and accessories to the classic lines of this 2019 trend. We would love to see colorful straps and embellishment to allow us to add more personality to this essential.
2019 Trend – Keep Our Planet Clean
Where to Find It: Nordstrom.com
While the “clear” bag trend has been here for some years now, it really got given a life of its own in 2019.
The trend sits a little controversially as 2019 also marked the leap towards the growing awareness of the impact of the fashion industry on the planet’s resources and the start of deterring the public from using single-use plastic products.
Both of these elements had a huge impact on creating this 2019 trend.
The invisible bags were re-introduced as reusable shopping bags and were featured in 2019’s collections by luxury brands such as Valentino and Fendi.
Ready for 2020? We are torn between this one. While the idea that these bags can be used in place of single-use carrier bags is commendable. We just highly doubt that they are being executed as such on a daily basis. If you really want to be conscious a simple fabric tote would do the job without having the hefty price tag!
